DESING, SYNTHESIS, STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS AND WORK OF NEW MOLECULAR DEVICES
 

THE AIM OF THIS PROJECT IS TO DEVELOP ADVANCED AND INNOVATING RESEARCH IN THE FIELD OF SUPRAMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY, ORIENTED THROUGH THE DESIGN AND SYNTHESIS OF NEW COMPOUNDS WITH SPECIAL SUPRAMOLECULAR PROPERTIES WHICH ARE ABLE TO PRODUCE A WORK UNDER PHOTOCHEMICAL, ELECTROCHEMICAL OR CHEMICAL STIMULATION AND WHICH CAN BE CONSIDERED TO BELONG TO THE FAMILY OF MOLECULAR DEVICES. THE TARGET MOLECULES, DUE TO THEIR WORK CAN BE CONSIDERED TO BE MOLECULAR SCISSORS OR MOLECULAR HINGES. THE ORIGINALITY OF THE DESIGN OF OUR TARGET MOLECULES IS CORRELATED WITH THE SYSTEMS PROPOSED TO TRANSFORM THE PHOTOCHEMICAL AND CHEMICAL ENERGY INTO WORK AND WITH THE SYSTEMS PROPOSED TO BE USED FOR THE MONITORING OF THE ACTING OF THESE DEVICES. WE PROJECT TO LINK AT THE ENDS OF THE SCISSOR OR OF THE HINGE, GROUPS WHICH CAN PRODUCE EASILY RADICALS OR GROUPS WHICH CAN INTERACT ONE WITH THE OTHER ONLY IF THEY ARE CLOSE IN SPACE. ON THE OTHER SIDE WE PROJECT TO CONNECT THE EXTREMITIES OF THE SCISSORS AND OF THE HINGES BY SYSTEMS WHICH CAN EASILY BE INVOLVED IN CONFORMATIONAL EQUILIBRIA. THE RESULTS OF THESE EQUILIBRIA HAVE TO BE STRUCTURES IN WHICH THE EXTREMITIES ARE CLOSE AND FAR ONE OF THE OTHER. THE PRIMARY STRUCTURE MODIFICATION IN THE SCISSORS OR IN THE HINGE IS TRANSMITTED TO THIS CONFORMATIONAL CHANGEABLE UNIT AND PRODUCES A WORK WHICH HAS AS RESULT THE OBTAINING OF THE CORRESPONDING CONFORMER (E.G. WITH CLOSE EXTREMITIES IF THE SCISSORS ARE CLOSED OR WITH DISTANCED EXTREMITIES IF THE SCISSORS ARE OPENED). IN FACT THE PROPOSED DEVICES ARE AN ASSOCIATION OF MOLECULAR MACHINES WITH ARE WORKING TOGETHER.THE ROLE OF THE CONFORMATIONALY ACTIVE UNITS IS ALSO TO IMPROVE THE MONITORING OF THE WORK OF THE PROPOSED MOLECULAR MACHINES.
