Main objectives

• The major goal of INA-MAT project focuses on three topical fields: (1) use of NPs for the targeted delivery of anticancer drugs into cancer cells; (2) use of NPs for enhancing activity of antimicrobial drugs and (3) development of advanced materials based on multifunctional ceramic and therapeutic metallic NPs functionalized with biomolecules, like ACD and AMC, for multiple medical applications.
   • The important objective of INA-MAT project is the development of new advanced nanocomposites, combining the effect of therapeutic metallic nanoparticles, functionalized with organic anticancer biomolecules against cervical and bone cancer, as well as with antimicrobial drugs against pathogenic microorganisms, with the effect of biomimetic ceramic nanoparticles, e.g., multi-substituted hydroxyapatites on osteogenic differentiation of human stem cells, jointly embedded into a polymeric matrix for sustained drug delivery, for multiple biomedical applications in cancer therapy, bone fracture healing, bone repair, and bone regeneration.

The specific objectives:

• develop NPs and anticancer drugs complexes (eg, by self-assembly approach) to specifically target cancer therapy.

• uses of NPs for the targeted delivery of AMC, fighting antibiotics bacterial resistance and simultaneously enhancing the activity of antimicrobial drugs.

• develop advanced materials based on multifunctional ceramics, ms-HAPs, and therapeutic metallic NPs functionalized with biomolecules, like ACD and AMC, namely ms-HAPs/NPs-ACD, and ms-HAPs/NPs-AMC nanomaterials.

• design and develop innovative nanocomposites of the next generation for local drug delivery, applicable for long-term sustained release for multiple medical applications.
