Energy and environmental protection are aspects of paramount importance in the modern world. In this respect, the research and development of energy-efficient low carbon technologies is extremely relevant and important. This project is aiming to develop innovative thermo-chemical systems for time-flexible energy conversion and storage applications with low carbon dioxide emissions. High temperature chemical and calcium looping cycles are integrated with power-to-gas concepts to propose novel energy technologies. Various fossil and renewable energy sources will be considered to design advanced time-flexible concepts for energy conversion and storage. Several decarbonized or low carbon energy vectors (i.e., power, hydrogen, synthetic fuels) will be considered as outputs. A wide range of experimental and numerical tools will be used to evaluate the techno-economic and performance indicators of novel concepts. Utilization of state-of-the-art chemical looping experimental kits available in applying organization will make possible investigation of process optimization potential (e.g., reactor design, better oxygen carriers / sorbents, improved process conditions). The experimental results will be used to validate the mathematical models which will be subsequently employed for the calculation of techno-economic and environmental performance indicators. Current energy conversion technologies will be used as benchmark cases to show the advantages of proposed innovative concepts.
