Protein ENgineering of Ferulic acid DeCarboxylase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae

OBJECTIVES

The general objective of the project consists of applying protein engineering techniques such as rational design and site-directed mutagenesis for ferulic acid decarboxylase from Saccharomyces cerevisiae in order to develop highly efficient biocatalysts for the production of styrene derivatives.

The PEN-FDC project involves three objectives:

  1. Objective 1. Heterologous bacterial expression systems for ScFDC1
  2. Objective 2. Active site mapping of ScFDC1
  3. Objective 3. Molecular level structure-activity assessment
