Phase 1: Synthesis and characterization of AgNPs/HAP composites

Summary

In phase 1, several specific activities were developed such as: synthesis of advanced AgNPs/HAP composites (dispersions, pastes and powders), either by AgNPs adsorbed on HAP or by AgNPs directly synthesized on HAP particles. All obtained composites were physically and chemically characterized in order to fulfill the NanoSilva project and the good practice exchange, as well as for the evaluation of antimicrobial effects in phase 2.

Phase 1 results contain several specific items: the report on synthesis and characterization of AgNPs/HAP composites; the report concerning the exchange of good practices; and a dissemination having 4 ISI articles accepted for publication, 3 conferences at the scientific meetings and 2 workshops/seminars for good practice exchange.

Phase 2: Obtaining and characterization of novel AMC/AgNPs, AMC/HAP and
              AgNPs-AMC-HAP advanced composites

Summary

Based on the experimental results obtained in Phase 1, the Phase 2 is scheduled for the realization of advanced NanoSilva nanomaterials as dispersions containing different organic antimicrobial compounds (AMC): inorganic-organic hybrid materials Some of the AMC which will be tested in these materials will be antibiotics.

The AMC will be adsorbed from its solution separately on HAP, on AgNPs, as well as on the previously obtained AgNPs/HAP composites. Thus three series of inorganic-organic hybrid materials will be obtained: the composites AMC/AgNPs, AMC/HAP and AgNPs-AMC-HAP.

The physical and chemical characterization of these NanoSilva nanomaterials, before and after sterilization process, will be realized by TEM, SEM, SEM-EDX, AFM, FT-IR spectroscopy, and by thermal analysis, by using differential scanning calorimeter, DSC. The results will be widespread disseminated by articles and communications at national and international scientific events, having 2 ISI articles, 11 conferences at the scientific meetings and 1 workshop/seminar for good practice exchange.

Phase 3: Antimicrobial characterization of new NanoSilva advanced composites

               and their field of applicability

Summary

Phase 3 comprises 3 derived activities. 1: Antimicrobial characterization of NanoSilva composites obtained in WP2.1 and WP2.2; 2: The applicability identification of Novel NanoSilva composites ; 3: Large scale results dissemination.

The results will be disseminated by articles and communications at national and international scientific events, having 2 ISI articles, 6 conferences at the scientific meetings, 1 workshop/seminar for good practice exchange and 1 patent application.
